Postharvest quality of hydroponic strawberry coated with chitosan-calcium gluconate

Abstract The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect edible coating on hydroponic strawberry during storage. Strawberries were coated with either 1% or 1.5% chitosan (CS) solution containing and 0.5% calcium gluconate (CaGlu). After treatment, samples stored at 10 °C, RH 90% for days. weight loss, soluble solid content, firmness, surface color, pH, percentage decay evaluated each day experiment. It observed that extended postharvest life compared control. Fungal growth occurred control group 5th fruit treated CS 8th storage period, whereas no visible sign detected other treatments. Soluble content pH showed only minor change all samples. Weight loss below 6% after days storage, around 10% end measurement. Moreover, could maintain firmness combination potential prolonging period till without decay, sample had more than 60% rotted fruit.
